Councillor Gary Sumner met Plant Director Roger Newman during a tour of the manufacturing facility, which employs around 600 people.
The meeting focused on strengthening ties between the council and BMW, including opportunities to support local supply chains and attract further investment to Swindon.
However, no new investment commitments or job announcements were confirmed following the visit.
The MINI Plant Swindon, which has a history dating back to 1954, produces components for vehicles assembled at BMW’s Oxford factory.
It uses advanced manufacturing technology and automated production processes, with continued investment aimed at supporting the site’s long-term future.
During his visit, Cllr Sumner was shown how the technology is being used at the facility and heard about BMW’s plans for the site.
Discussions also explored how the council could work more closely with the company to create opportunities for Swindon businesses and residents.
Councillor Gary Sumner, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said:
“BMW MINI is one of Swindon’s manufacturing success stories and a hugely important employer for our borough. It was great to meet Roger and the team to hear about their plans for the future and learn more about the innovation taking place at the site.
“We want Swindon to be the best place to do business, and strong relationships with employers like BMW are vital if we are to attract investment, support local jobs and create opportunities for residents.
“We look forward to continuing to work together to support the long-term growth of manufacturing in Swindon.”
The visit also highlighted BMW’s work with schools and colleges in Swindon to encourage young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The company supports sporting and cultural initiatives in the town and has invested in biodiversity projects at its manufacturing site.
The council says it wants to develop stronger relationships with major employers to help Swindon remain an attractive location for businesses looking to expand.
Although no specific commitments were announced, the meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to explore further cooperation on the future of manufacturing in the town.
