If you’ve never taken the time to notice before there have likely been fire exit and safety signs in every building that you have been in. It is a critical part of any commercial or industrial building for more reasons than you realise.

For business owners, having the proper fire exit signs is a critical part of ownership. If you still aren’t sold, here are a few major reasons why you need to have the right fire exit signs and lights throughout your building.

Following Regulations

While safety should be the most important reason for fire exit signs, it isn’t necessarily the thing that businesses consider first. When it comes right down to it, there are regulations that businesses must follow or face harsh penalties and fines. Those regulations are a critical factor when developing proper safety protocols, especially with fire safety gets taken into consideration.

Having fire exit signs is a necessity that nearly every business has. Holding up to municipal and federal safety standards means following specific requirements as far as the display and implementation of said signage. For instance, signs typically need to be about 6 inches tall by 2 inches wide with a reliable illumination source attached.

By failing to install properly illuminated exit signs, the business could face fines and a litany of other problems when the local safety inspector stops by. Avoid those issues by sticking to the regulations and having the proper fire exit signage available.

A Fast, Reliable Exit

In the event of a fire, things can turn chaotic quickly. The last thing that should happen is a lack of direction that keeps people in harm’s way. Having effective fire signs means creating a reliable, fast exit from the fire. Even the difference of a minute can wind up being the difference between life and death.

Exit signs become clearly visible in the event of a fire, especially when lights go out and smoke fills the space. These signs also provide clear instructions as to the path that needs to be taken when exiting the building. These routes are meant to create a clear path that avoids confusion and promotes true safety.

Signs also clearly indicate proper exits in the event of an emergency like a gas leak, fire, or any other type of dangerous situation. If signs are not properly illuminated and within clear view, they are rendered ineffective (and can wind up landing your business in hot water when the safety inspector drops by).

Proper First Responder Assistance

Not everyone will make it out of the building unscathed. Should something happen, namely an injury or smoke inhalation, then there needs to be easily accessible help. Without proper emergency exit signs, there may be no reliable way for first responders to gain access to those who need their services the most.

Proper emergency exit signs help first responders navigate their way through the building to provide assistance. Those same signs can help them get out quickly as well. It can be the difference between life and death in some instances. Those small edges can wind up making a massive difference in emergency situations.

Fire safety is critical because fire is so difficult to manage and control. Even with access to nearby fire extinguishers, there is no guarantee of safety. By having properly illuminating safety signs posted around the premises, it gives both employees and first responders the chance to respond appropriately and ensure that everyone remains safe. Fire is nothing to trifle with and you can remain clear with the right fire exit signs.
