Connor Graham and Luke Goodenough, who work at The Salvation Army’s Booth House, both achieved Merit grades in their Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeships.

Their achievements were celebrated during a certificate presentation on Thursday 1st October, attended by the Deputy Mayor of Swindon and her Consort.

The visit also provided an opportunity to highlight the work being carried out at the centre to support people experiencing homelessness and social exclusion.

Patrick Holder-Mallett, Programme Manager at Booth House, said:

“We are incredibly proud of Connor and Luke. The work they do day in, day out to support some of the most vulnerable people in our community is truly inspiring, and their successful completion of these apprenticeships speaks volumes about their commitment to continuously improving themselves so they can do that work even better.

“This is a significant achievement and reflects their dedication, professionalism, and desire to grow — not just for their own development, but so they can better serve those who rely on our support.

“They should be commended for the effort they have invested in reaching this milestone.”

During the visit, the Deputy Mayor also met social work students completing placements at Booth House, alongside their on-site Practice Supervisors.

The centre has developed a partnership with the University of Bath’s Department of Social and Policy Sciences, providing placements for second and third-year social work students.

The placements allow students to gain practical experience supporting people with complex needs while working alongside experienced professionals.

The Deputy Mayor and her Consort also met residents participating in activities designed to develop practical skills and improve their independence.

These include cooking, baking, food safety and customer service training, delivered through the centre’s fully equipped kitchen.

Residents can also learn bicycle repair skills through an on-site recycling workshop, helping them build confidence and prepare for potential employment.

Booth House, located at 1 Spring Close, provides accommodation and support for adults with connections to Swindon who are experiencing homelessness.

The 50-bed facility offers 24-hour direct access accommodation and resettlement support for single men and women aged 18 and over.

Many residents have experienced challenges involving addiction, mental health difficulties or financial hardship.

Support includes help with everyday living skills, access to healthcare, addiction recovery programmes and assistance with securing long-term accommodation.

The centre has also introduced a sensory room to support residents’ recovery and wellbeing.

Through staff apprenticeships, university placements and practical training for residents, Booth House aims to improve the support available to vulnerable people while creating opportunities for personal development.
