Police are appealing for the public’s help in locating a number of World War 1 and World War 2 medals stolen during a burglary.

Between 9.30am and 11.45am on 16 October 2016, a house in Ferndale Road was broken into.

In total, three World War 1 medals, and four World War 2 medals which belonged to the parents of an 84-year-old man who lives at the address with his wife, were stolen.

A bicycle was also stolen from the garage.

PC Alex Mulley said: “These medals are of huge sentimental value to the elderly couple living at this address who have been left completely devastated following the burglary.

“Some of the medals have a surname engraved on the back, while some have the full name of the victim’s father.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Ferndale Road area between the hours of 9.30am and 11.45am yesterday to please get in touch. The information you have may seem insignificant, but it could help us build a better picture regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would also like to appeal directly to those responsible for this burglary – the elderly victims you have targeted are desperate to have these medals returned. They are completely irreplaceable. Please think about your actions carefully.

“Police are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident and anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
