Wondering what to do this weekend?

Look no further! Come along to the FREE annual St. George’s Day Festival on Sunday 22nd April between 11.00am and 4.00pm.

Best of Swindon Talent 2018 Finalists

St George’s Day is celebrated across England every year in honour of England’s patron saint. According to legend, he was a soldier in the Roman army who killed a dragon and saved a princess.

Last year’s event was a great success with thousands of visitors attending and the organiser’s, inSwindon town centre BID are hoping the sunshine will encourage even more visitors this year.

The festival will be an action-packed day full of FREE traditional family fun. Plus, LIVE entertainment, St. George’s Day Parade and the BEST of Swindon Talent Competition 2018.

The Festival kicks-off at Wharf Green, where you will be met by one of St. George’s Knights of the Round Table ‘Sir Muck-about’ – the festival host.

The playful Knight has a few surprises up his sleeves and will entertain all the family with his interactive children’s games, comedy sketches, prizes and will have everyone wanting more. Plus, Diana Doors lookalike will join him on stage, adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to the event.

The little ones will get the opportunity to get their face painted for FREE with an England flag. Local musicians will perform ‘LIVE’ on stage throughout the day. Plus, visitors will also get to meet St. George and get ready to go on an adventure with Blaze the dragon.

Come along to the Parade Shopping centre for FREE Maypole dancing. Plus, watch the falconers fly several species of birds of prey at Havelock Square.

St. George will also lead the official parade through the town centre with the Britannia Mini/Majorettes, from 12.30pm meeting at the Cenotaph (town hall). The public, community groups, scout/cubs/guides and dance groups are all invited to join the Parade.

Last Friday at the Wyvern Theatre, the Best of Swindon Judges which included, Di Powell, inSwindon town Centre BID CEO, Tanya Peters, Topshop/Topman Manager, Marcus Lilley, Wyvern Theatre and Matt Fox from The Swindon Fringe all had the hard task to whittle down the entries to 7 finalists, with the 8th finalist chosen by a public online vote.

This year’s BEST of Swindon Talent Competition 2018 finalists are:

Melody Chan
Amelie Jadhav
Tamara Lee
Ben Kay
Omolola Funsho
Nathanael Parker
Kody Bowler
Lucianna Lambert

The Talent Competition final will take place from 2pm at Wharf Green. Come along and cheer for your favourite.

Di Powell, inSwindon BID Chief Executive said:

“The annual event is set to be a great day out for the all family and it is a great opportunity to showcase the town centre businesses”.

All the town centre businesses will be open on the day with some great best of British offers to take advantage of. Offers include a St. George Day Cupcake and coffee for only £2 at McCtaff’s Tea Room to 50% off phone cases at the Phone Doctor. Look out for all the offers via inSwindon Facebook page.

This year’s best of Swindon Talent Competition 2018 entries has once again produced a high standard of entries. The judges and I had a difficult job to shortlist the finalists to put forward to the official judging stage. We would like to thank everyone who entered and hope to see you all at the Final of the BEST Swindon Talent Competition 2018”.

Come along and join in the fun with the inSwindon town centre BID St. George’s day Festival celebrations – it’s going to be a blast!
