Budding young gardeners are being invited to learn how to recycle their Christmas trees at a free children’s workshop taking place in Swindon.
Dobbies Garden Centres will host the event on Sunday 4 January at its Swindon store, as part of its monthly Little Seedlings Club programme.
The session will focus on teaching children where real Christmas trees come from, why they are good for nature and what happens to them after the festive season ends.
Children will also learn about the importance of recycling Christmas trees and how to do so safely at home.
The workshop includes an interactive true or false game to test what children have learned during the session.
This will be followed by a hands-on activity where children will build a mini wildlife habitat using recycled Christmas tree branches.
The habitats are designed to provide shelter during winter months for animals such as hedgehogs, insects and frogs in home gardens.
Little Seedlings Club sessions are held monthly at Dobbies’ Swindon store and are designed to help children learn about gardens and nature through games, activities and discussion.
Ayesha Nickson, Dobbies’ Events Programme Manager, said:
“Our Little Seedlings Club in January is ideal for young gardeners looking for an exciting project now that Christmas is over.
“The workshop at our Swindon store also covers some simple ways to help the planet. We are all looking forward to welcoming the Little Seedlings for the first session of 2026 and to see their wildlife habitat creations created from recycled Christmas trees.”
The workshop is free to attend, but spaces must be booked in advance.
