A Lindy Hop-inspired dance workshop will take place at the historic Old Town venue on Sunday 16 August.

The event, called Step Back in Time, will feature an hour of swing music and dancing led by Swindon Dance instructor Zoe Humphries.

The workshop has been designed for complete beginners as well as people with previous dance experience.

Participants will learn simple routines inspired by Lindy Hop, the swing dance which became popular during the 1930s – the same decade in which the Town Gardens Bowl opened.

No previous experience is required and people do not need to attend with a dance partner.

The session forms part of a programme of events celebrating the Bowl’s 90-year history as a venue for music, entertainment and community gatherings.

Councillor John Firmin, Chair of South Swindon Parish Council’s Events Working Party, said:

“The Town Gardens Bowl has been bringing people together through music, entertainment and shared experiences for 90 years, so it’s wonderful to mark the anniversary with an activity that gets people up and moving. Step Back in Time is a great opportunity to try something completely different, learn some Lindy Hop-inspired moves and have fun in this special setting.”

Tickets for the workshop cost £3 per person.

The event takes place tomorrow at the Town Gardens Bowl on Sunday 16th August, with tickets available through the venue’s online box office.
