Georgie Weedon’s Ancient Pathways exhibition opens at National Trust Avebury on Saturday 5th September, featuring work produced during her time as the site’s 2026 Artist in Residence.

The collection explores Avebury through the changing seasons, drawing inspiration from the 16th-century manor house, its garden and the prehistoric landscape surrounding the village.

Georgie said:

“Avebury is extraordinary – every visit feels different, every season brings something new and the landscape, garden and stones all seem to hold stories.

“Ancient Pathways captures the changing moods of the year, from the colours and textures of the garden to the vast sense of time and space that surround the monuments in the landscape.”

Paintings of Avebury’s famous standing stones will feature alongside landscapes depicting the Ridgeway, Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow.

Still lifes featuring spring and summer flowers from Avebury Manor Garden will also form part of the exhibition.

Georgie’s work focuses on the British landscape and explores themes of place, memory and connection. Some of her work has also been installed inside Avebury Manor during the residency.

She said:

“I want to create work that reflects the energy of the landscape and invites people to slow down, look closer and feel a deeper connection to place.”

Ancient Pathways will be held in the Racquets Court, which was built around 1920 and has recently been refurbished as an exhibition and events space within Avebury Manor Garden.

National Trust Avebury’s Visitor Experience Manager Hazel said:

“Avebury is a place that has inspired artists for generations, and it is wonderful to see how our Artists in Residence interpret the site and wider landscape.

“Georgie’s creations are full of warmth and colour and reflect the joy that many feel from spending time in the Avebury Manor Garden, the house, or wandering among the stones.”

The exhibition forms part of the National Trust’s “Autumn of Art” at Avebury.

Avebury’s annual Sculpture Exhibition will run alongside it, with 89 contemporary sculptures by 23 artists displayed across the different garden “rooms” at Avebury Manor.

Visitors can also experience Georgie’s Welcome Home installation inside Avebury’s historic dovecote.

The sound installation uses a single sung voice and aims to encourage visitors to pause and spend time being still inside the building.

Ancient Pathways runs until Sunday 1 November, with the painting and sculpture exhibitions open daily from 10am until 5pm.

Normal garden admission charges apply, while National Trust members can enter for free.
