The centre’s Little Seedlings Club returns on Sunday 2nd August with a free session exploring how sunshine and shade help gardens grow.

The workshop is designed to introduce young gardeners to the science behind plants through interactive games, quizzes and creative activities.

Children will learn why plants need sunlight to survive, how light helps them produce food, why leaves are green and which plants are best suited to sunny or shaded areas. They will also receive advice on looking after plants during hot summer weather.

Each child will make a colourful suncatcher to take home and display in a window as a reminder of what they have learned during the session.

Little Seedlings Club runs every month and aims to encourage children to develop an interest in gardening and the natural world through hands-on activities. Each workshop follows a seasonal theme, helping youngsters learn more about plants and wildlife while building confidence outdoors.

Hannah Stephen, Dobbies’ Event Programme Manager, said:

“The August Little Seedlings Club is a fantastic way to get children excited about spending time outdoors this summer and encourage them to learn more about how light and shade impact our gardens.

“Our free gardening workshops offer kids the opportunity to experience something new and take part in hands-on learning. We’re excited to welcome the Little Seedlings this summer and see each of their suncatcher creations.”

Places are free, but booking in advance is required. Families can reserve a space through Dobbies’ events page.
