A varied programme of activities has focused on wellbeing, connection and bringing the community together through inclusive sessions for all ages.

The week began on Monday with a heritage-themed event at the Swindon and Cricklade Railway.

Residents were welcomed with refreshments before railway volunteer Geoff delivered a talk on the history of the line and the “David-and-Goliath” challenges it has faced.

Volunteer Tony then spoke about the benefits of volunteering and the positive impact it can have on mental wellbeing, including building confidence, skills and friendships.

The morning ended with guided tours of the railway, offering attendees the chance to explore the site while socialising with others.

Later that day, attention shifted to physical activity at the White Eagle Outdoor Gym.

Residents joined a group workout led by Matt Fruci, which combined coaching with encouragement in a relaxed outdoor setting.

Participants worked in pairs, rotating between gym equipment and bodyweight exercises.

One participant described the session simply as: “Fun… but brutal!”

Organisers said the event underlined the link between physical activity and good mental health, with the outdoor setting helping people feel at ease.

Other activities during the week have included the popular Craft and Connect group, which provided a quiet space for residents to unwind and take part in creative activities.

Organisers said they designed the programme to offer “something for everyone” – from heritage and history to exercise and creative sessions.

Councillor Vinay Manro, Chairman of the Parish Council, said: “As a Parish Council, we place huge importance on creating supportive opportunities for residents to get together.

“Whether that’s through physical activity, shared interests or simply having a space to talk and connect, these moments play a vital role in supporting positive mental health.

“It’s fantastic to see our community engaging so warmly with the activities this week, and we’re committed to continuing to provide inclusive opportunities for everyone.”

The week will conclude on Saturday with SK8Jam at the local skate park between 2pm-4pm, delivered in partnership with ATBShop.

The event will feature skate challenges, mini competitions and creative activities, alongside youth services information and an ice cream van.

Residents are encouraged to attend whether they wish to skate or simply watch and enjoy the atmosphere.

Organisers say the programme demonstrates how connection, creativity and movement can all contribute to positive mental health.
