Councillors agreed to appoint Maverick Skateparks following the completion of a competitive tender process.

The approval also authorises the council’s chief officer to proceed with the contract award.

The project follows a procurement exercise launched in summer 2025, when Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council invited tenders from contractors to design and construct a new skate park for the town.

The tender notice was published on the UK government’s Find a Tender service and set an estimated contract value of £450,000 excluding VAT, or £540,000 including VAT.

The proposed contract period runs from Monday 2 February 2026 to Tuesday 2 February 2027.

Tender submissions were assessed against criteria including design quality, delivery approach, budget management, previous experience, communication and programme timescales.

Maverick Skateparks was selected following the council’s evaluation of the bids received.

The decision brings to a close around two years of preparatory work by the skate park working group, made up of residents, wheeled sports users and councillors.

The group has helped shape the project brief and supported the council throughout the procurement process.

Once the contract is finalised, the next phase will involve detailed work between the council, the contractor and the local community.

This will include assessing potential sites and developing a detailed design for the facility.

The council has said community engagement will be central to this stage, with further consultation planned in the new year.

Russell Holbert, director of Maverick Skateparks, said:

“We are really looking forward to working with Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council, the local community and key stakeholders to create a high-quality, inclusive and contemporary skatepark for the town.”

No planning application has yet been submitted to Wiltshire Council for the skate park.

Proposals are expected to come forward once the design stage is further developed.
