The 48-acre park, located at Brynards Hill on the southern edge of the town, offers panoramic views, walking routes, and a growing range of features aimed at supporting both people and wildlife.
Access is available from several points including Vowley View, Rowan Drive, Templars Firs, Pool Meadow and Cloatley Crescent, near the local play park.
At a meeting on Wednesday 9 October, the Town Council formally adopted the Coronation Country Park Vision and Strategy Document. The plans were drawn up by the park’s Steering Group, which includes councillors, the RWB Environment Trust, the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust and local residents.
A council spokesperson said:
“This isn’t just a park – it’s a place where people can connect with nature and with each other.“We want every path, pond, and bench here to tell part of Royal Wootton Bassett’s story.”
Several small changes have already taken place on the site, including the installation of three handcrafted benches donated by the RWB Environment Trust. Two more benches are expected soon.
Five new litter bins have also been positioned at key entrances to the park. One of the bins has been sponsored by Lee Morgan Heating & Plumbing Ltd, with other businesses being encouraged to get involved.
Meanwhile, three ponds within the park have been desilted and reshaped to support local wildlife. The work followed an ecological survey in August and was funded by the RWB Environment Trust, Sustain Wiltshire Operations CIC, the Mayor’s Charity Fund and the Wessex Water Foundation Community Fund.
Although the ponds currently appear bare, they are expected to become thriving wildlife habitats by summer 2026.
Future plans include more tree planting, extending paths, and introducing wildflower areas. Residents are encouraged to submit ideas and feedback through the My Bassett Portal or by calling 01793 850222.
