Prospect Hospice is once again running its annual Christmas tree collection service, offering households an environmentally friendly way to dispose of their trees while raising funds for hospice care.

The scheme is delivered in partnership with Just Helping as part of The Big Christmas Tree-Cycle Appeal 2026, a nationwide initiative encouraging people to register their tree for collection and make a donation.

The appeal brings together volunteers across the UK to recycle and chip thousands of trees, helping to keep waste out of landfill and reduce carbon emissions.

For a suggested donation of £20, teams of volunteers from Prospect Hospice will collect and responsibly recycle real Christmas trees from homes across the local community.

Funds raised through the scheme will support the hospice’s work caring for patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses.

Collections will take place across the SN1, SN2, SN3, SN4, SN5, SN6, SN25 and SN26 postcode areas.

Ben Lee, Head of Relationship Fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said: “Our Christmas tree collection is such a brilliant way for the community to give back after the festive season. For many people, it’s a small act, booking their tree collection, but it makes a big difference.

“Every donation helps us to provide specialist care and support for local people at the end of their lives, and for their families too. It’s a true example of turning trees into care.”

The hospice is also appealing for volunteers and local businesses to help with the collections, including those able to give a few hours of time or provide vans and vehicles.

“We couldn’t run this project without the amazing volunteers and local companies who help collect and transport trees,” Ben added. “If you have a van or some time to give in early January, we’d love to hear from you.”

Registration for the service is now open.
