Following the the recent surge in EV cars with many of us switching to this greener vehicle, there has also been an increase in the number of electric fleet vehicles on the roads.

With the transport sector continuing to account for the largest portion of carbon emissions in the country, businesses have responded by investing in EVs and have begun implementing the transition to these more environmentally friendly vehicles.

As organisations continue to find ways to contribute to reducing the threat of climate change, transitioning to electric fleet vehicles has so far offered the most benefits to businesses and also the environment.

With a rise in in EVs beginning to shape the fleet landscape, many businesses are starting to look into the advantages these vehicles can have on not just the environment, but their business as well.

Here is a selection of reasons why EV fleets are rapidly becoming a preferred transport option for businesses.

Keeping Costs Low

When taking into consideration the total cost of ownership of, organisations have noticed the significant saving they can achieve simply by switching to EV.

In addition to reducing fuel costs, businesses can also take advantage of the low-cost distributed energy solutions, for example solar, to power their vehicles.

Another key benefit for businesses switching to EV is the reduction in maintenance costs, as EVs are renowned for being more reliable than internal combustion engine vehicles.

As EVs have fewer mechanical parts in comparison to internal combustion engine vehicles, it means there are fewer parts which are prone to failure.

Aside from the costs saved in car maintenance, the amount saved on fuel is also reduced significantly. The cost to fuel an EV is substantially lower in comparison to either petrol or diesel cars.

A New Source of Revenue

By switching to EV, businesses can look into implementing onsite charging points. Having electric charging for fleets available onsite can help in reducing costs with using external charging points for the vehicles.

The onsite charging points, from innovative providers such as ClarkeEV, mean that employees can charge the vehicles whilst at work, which means fleet drivers are able to start the day fully charged.

Aside from reducing the cost, businesses can also generate a new source of revenue with onsite charging points, such as offering them to customers or visitors with EVs when they are visiting the office.

Employee Retention And Satisfaction

Switching to an EV is not just for your business or the environment, it also benefits the employees as well.

With the frequent use of smart charging, it can help to increase a driver’s confidence through convenient access to on-site charging facilities, which in turn encourages an uptake of EVs not only for fleets, but also for person use as well.

The enhanced experience fleet drivers have with better route planning to help reduce driving times lowers commutes costs and also reduces the risk of breakdowns.

Thanks to the lower number of component parts compared to internal combustion engine vehicles, EVs face less breakdowns and helps to keep drivers on the road longer.

Another factor of switching to EVs which has shown to be an attractive quality as an employer, is the improvement in health and safety.

With EVs, the air quality is much better and there is also less exposure to harmful nitrogen oxides, as well as other pollutants – which is just one of the many benefits for employees.

If a business is able to demonstrate that they are committed to reducing their organisations carbon footprint impact from their daily commute, or their fleet has shown it can have a positive impact on employee engagement, as a result it can help with enhancing retention amongst the staff.

Taking Steps To Become A Greener Business

To become a more sustainable organisation, one of the most essential steps is reducing your carbon footprint.

Providing leadership in offering EV charging infrastructure and transitioning fleets to EVs, many businesses and public bodies can help to play a major role in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions, as well as inspiring wider EV adoption across society.

In a 2019 report around distributed energy trends, being socially and environmentally responsible was ranked third in terms of a business’ main priority for the next three years.

In today’s job market, many candidates are not only looking at businesses which offers room for growth, but they also take into consideration what steps an organisation is taking in the fight against climate change.

However, it is not just candidates who focus on the environmental impact a company has, consumers are also looking at how a business they may purchase from are trying to become a greener business.

Which is why, organisations who are transitioning to using EVS can improve their brand reputation by demonstrating to potential candidates and consumers a green leadership and stronger sustainability credentials.
