Organisers say only a limited number of tickets remain for the inaugural event, which will bring together speakers from across the UK and beyond for a day of talks, discussion and networking.

Part of the globally recognised TEDx programme, the independently organised event aims to provide a platform for ideas, innovation and conversation. It has been created to showcase voices from a wide range of backgrounds while encouraging collaboration within the community.

The event will be held at Swindon’s Town Hall. This year’s theme, Lines of Connection, will explore how people, communities and different fields intersect. Topics will include technology, leadership, creativity, heritage and social change.

Among those due to speak are author and advocate Amanda Klapish, theatre director and professor Andrei Malaev-Babel, Swindon Heritage Preservation chair Bob Wright, media consultant Fiona Scott, entrepreneur and philanthropist James Phipps, computer museum founder Jeremy Holt, social entrepreneur Nyasha Gwatidzo, Swindon Culture Collective chief executive Dr Roderick Hebden, author Sonal Shah and musician Soumik Datta.

Diane Curley, Malcolm Martin, Marcus Weston and Pearl Jordan are also set to take to the stage.

TEDx Railway Village was founded by Robert Jandy and Debbie Bryan, who hope the event will become a lasting part of Swindon’s cultural scene.

Speaking ahead of the event, they said:

“With the event now just a few days away, our focus is on bringing everything together for a memorable day of ideas and conversation. We’re looking forward to welcoming people from across Swindon and beyond.

“There are still a small number of tickets available, and we encourage anyone interested to book now and be part of the first TEDx event in the town.”

Tickets start from £35, with options available for individuals, teams and businesses.

Organisers believe the event will help place Swindon at the centre of new conversations around culture, innovation and community, while bringing a globally recognised platform to the town for the first time.
