Candlelit concert creates magical night in Swindon

A special Valentine’s performance from the Candlelight concert series transformed a venue in Swindon into an intimate setting filled with music and candlelight.

Last night’s Valentine’s special Candlelight concert at Christchurch Swindon was, without exaggeration, one of the most magical and beautiful events we have experienced in Swindon.

Part of the wider Candlelight series curated by Fever under the Secret Media Network banner, the performance transformed the historic Old Town church into something truly cinematic.

The soaring ceilings, stained glass, and natural intimacy of the space elevated the entire evening. The acoustics were exceptional, clear, resonant and immersive without ever feeling overwhelming. Every note from the string ensemble carried effortlessly through the church, wrapping around the audience rather than simply projecting at them.

Hundreds of candles lined the performance area, their soft glow dancing against stone walls and wooden pews.

For just over £13 a ticket, the value was remarkable. This was not background entertainment in a noisy bar. It was a carefully staged, beautifully executed cultural experience at an accessible price point.

The Valentine’s programme leaned into romance without drifting into cliché.

The church setting amplified the atmosphere rather than competing with it. It felt as though the building itself was part of the performance.

This was not a one-off. The Candlelight series continues in Swindon, with upcoming performances featuring the music of Coldplay and another show dedicated to the work of Hans Zimmer.

If last night is any indication, these will not simply be concerts. They will be experiences.

Swindon is sometimes quick to downplay its cultural offering. Evenings like this quietly dismantle that narrative. The appetite is clearly there. The venue is there. The audience is there.

We left Christchurch genuinely moved, and that is not something you say lightly about a local event.

And for one evening in Old Town, Swindon felt utterly magical.
