Wroughton Wranglers Cricket Club has pledged its support to the Poo Free Parish campaign, launched earlier this year by Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council.
The initiative aims to encourage dog owners to clean up after their pets, helping to protect parks, footpaths and other green spaces used by the community.
The cricketers are the latest to get involved, following support from Wroughton and Wichelstowe Football Club and volunteers from Vision 4 Wroughton last month.
Martyn Gregory, a member of Wroughton Wranglers Cricket Club, said:
“We’re delighted to be supporting the Poo Free Parish campaign and doing our bit to help keep Wroughton and Wichelstowe clean and tidy.
“As cricketers, we know how important it is to have clean, safe and enjoyable green spaces for everyone to use. Nobody wants to be dodging dog mess when they’re out enjoying themselves, whether that’s playing sport, walking the dog or spending time with family.
“Picking up after your dog is such a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference to our community. We’re proud to be backing the campaign and hope we can encourage a few more people to play their part. Let’s bowl dog fouling out of the parish for good.”
The parish council hopes that getting sports clubs, businesses and community organisations involved will help spread the message and encourage more responsible dog ownership.
Councillor Mark Trigg, Vice Chair of the parish council’s Open Spaces Committee, welcomed the club’s support.
He said:
“It’s fantastic to see another local sports club getting behind our Poo Free Parish campaign. Our local clubs and community groups are at the heart of parish life, and their support is invaluable in helping us spread the message and encourage responsible dog ownership.
“We know that the vast majority of dog owners do the right thing and pick up after their pets. Unfortunately, it only takes a small minority failing to do so to spoil our lovely parks, footpaths and green spaces for everyone else.
“By working together as a community, we hope to change attitudes and make dog fouling a thing of the past. We’re incredibly grateful to the Wranglers and everyone else who has supported the campaign so far.”
Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council is encouraging other local clubs, businesses and community groups to get behind the initiative.
It hopes wider support will help reduce dog fouling and ensure public spaces remain clean and enjoyable for residents.
