The town ranked fifth nationally after 8,481 nominations were submitted to the Movement for Good Awards between January and September this year.
The figures, released by financial services group Benefact Group, place Swindon among the UK’s top ten kindest places for 2026.
Swindon finished ahead of Newcastle upon Tyne, Luton, Bath, Cardiff and Birkenhead in the rankings.
Norwich claimed first place, followed by Milton Keynes, Wolverhampton and Plymouth.
The results were calculated using the number of charity nominations submitted by residents compared with local population figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Chris Pitt, Group Impact Director at Benefact Group, said:
“It’s always inspiring to see people champion the charities and causes that mean the most to them.
“We’re especially grateful to the people of Swindon for taking the time to submit their nominations throughout the year.
“Every nomination represents a vote of confidence in the role of charities, allowing them to provide vital support in order to make a difference in their communities.”
The Movement for Good Awards allows members of the public to nominate charities for financial support, with £1.12 million being distributed through the scheme in 2026.
Now in its eighth year, the initiative supports organisations working with vulnerable people and communities across the UK and Ireland.
Benefact Group, which is owned by a charity, has donated more than £250 million to good causes since 2014.
Mr Pitt added:
“The public response to the Movement for Good Awards was once again extraordinary this year.
“What began as a way to support the causes that matter most to people has grown into a nationwide force for good across the nation.”
The rankings are based solely on charity nominations rather than a broader assessment of kindness.
