The beds are available every night at The Haven Day Centre, as part of a £405,000 government-funded initiative to tackle homelessness in the town.
Swindon Borough Council has expanded its outreach services through the Government’s Routes Off The Street scheme, which will provide support throughout the year.
The Haven, a local homelessness charity, provides emergency accommodation alongside meals, hot drinks, showers, laundry facilities and access to phones and computers.
People using the service can also receive advice and specialist support to help them find longer-term accommodation.
The announcement follows the council’s annual rough sleeper count, carried out on Friday 23 October.
The count provides a snapshot of the number of people sleeping rough on a particular night. Last year’s count, conducted in 2025, recorded 12 people sleeping on Swindon’s streets.
The results of the count carried out on Friday 23 October this year have not yet been published.
Swindon Borough Council says everyone identified as sleeping rough in the town has been offered accommodation.
Outreach workers regularly patrol Swindon to identify people sleeping on the streets and help them access housing, healthcare, financial assistance and other services.
Those needing help can be assigned a dedicated case officer and given a personalised housing plan, with emergency accommodation available while longer-term options are explored.
The council also works with residents at risk of becoming homeless, including contacting landlords and family members to help prevent people from losing their homes.
Councillor Matty Courtliff, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, said:
“Behind every person sleeping rough is an individual story and often a complex set of circumstances that have led them to that point. That’s why it is so important that support is compassionate, practical and tailored to people’s needs.
“Preventing homelessness is just as important as responding to it. Our teams work every day with residents who are at risk of losing their home, helping them access support before they reach crisis point.
“Whether someone is already sleeping rough or worried about becoming homeless, help is available and I’d encourage anyone who needs support, or who is concerned about somebody sleeping rough, to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Anyone who is homeless or at risk of losing their home can contact the council’s Homelessness Prevention Team on 01793 445500.
People can also visit the council’s offices at Beckhampton Street, Swindon, SN1 2JH, without an appointment.
Anyone concerned about someone sleeping rough can report their location through StreetLink, which connects people with local outreach services.
