The enclosed space has been created after dog owners raised concerns about the lack of a safe area where dogs could run off lead. More than 130 residents signed a petition calling for a secure dog park, with wider consultation also showing strong local support.

The new park is free to use and sits alongside the wider open field, allowing dogs to exercise and socialise without limiting access for other users.

The site is located on Goodearl Field between Chatsworth Road and Old Blunsdon Road, behind the Goodearl Leisure Garden site.

Councillor Vinay Manro, and Chair of Haydon Wick Parish Council said the opening demonstrated how sustained community pressure can lead to practical improvements when supported by the right partners.

Part of the funding for the project was provided by Muddy Squad, which worked alongside Haydon Wick Parish Council to deliver the scheme.

The parish council has described the project as a clear example of local consultation resulting in direct action.

“I walk my dog here most days, and this makes a real difference,” said a local dog walker we spoke to, “having a secure, fenced space means I can let him run properly without worrying about roads or other people.

It feels well thought through, it is clean, safe, and you can already see dogs and owners enjoying it. It is exactly what this area needed.”

The dog park is fully fenced and includes on site bins to encourage responsible use. Guidance has been issued asking owners to keep dogs under control, clean up after them, ensure gates are shut securely, and avoid bringing unwell dogs or food into the enclosed area.

Residents are being encouraged to share feedback on how the space is working and suggest any future improvements.

Any issues or maintenance concerns can be reported to the parish council through its website, email or phone contact.

The park is now open and already being used by residents, marking the delivery of a small but visible improvement shaped by local voices.
