The Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper and batter spent the evening meeting supporters, signing autographs and posing for photographs as dozens of people turned out for the event.

Patel has become one of India’s most promising young cricketers after scoring one of the fastest centuries in domestic T20 cricket before securing a place with Chennai Super Kings.

Reflecting on his rise through the sport, Patel said:

“I’ve worked incredibly hard for 17 years to reach this point. It hasn’t happened overnight. It’s been built through dedication, discipline and a lot of hard work.”

Asked what advice he would give to young cricketers in Swindon, he said:

“I’ve been fortunate to have complete support from my family, but ultimately it comes down to staying focused on your goal. Don’t lose sight of what you want to achieve, work hard every day, and keep believing in yourself.”

Speaking about the impact he hopes to have on the game, he added:

“I want to leave a legacy that people can look up to. I’d like to create memories and records that encourage the next generation to aim high and chase their own dreams.”

Patel also praised the town during his visit.

“I think Swindon is a beautiful place. It’s very neat and clean, I’ve taken lots of photographs, and I’d love to retire here one day,” he joked.

The event was organised by Hungry n Thirsty, whose owners said the restaurant was created to offer authentic food and drinks from across India while celebrating the country’s culture through community events.

The restaurant is in Gorse Hill

“We’re both food lovers,” they said. “We wanted people to experience authentic Indian food and drinks that have been missing in this country, bringing together flavours from every region of India in one place. It’s about sharing our culture through food, drinks and the atmosphere.”

The restaurant offers dishes inspired by regions across India rather than focusing on a single style of cooking. Among its most popular options is its traditional thali, including the Maharaja Thali, which features more than 20 dishes.

Owner – Divesh Goyal

“We wanted people to experience the whole of India in one meal rather than choosing a single dish. It becomes a feast that families and friends can enjoy together.”

The owners said inviting Patel to Swindon was a fitting way to celebrate Indian culture and the sport’s popularity.

“In India, cricket is almost a religion. For people here, meeting a player who only months ago they were watching on television is something very special. It inspires young cricketers to see what hard work can achieve.”

Owner – Bhawna Goyal

They added that their own son, who plays junior cricket locally, had eagerly awaited the visit.

The restaurant has previously welcomed several well-known Indian personalities and continues to promote authentic regional cuisine, recommending its tandoori chicken and traditional Indian drinks to first-time visitors.

Tuesday’s appearance attracted cricket supporters from across the area and gave local fans the chance to meet one of the IPL’s emerging stars in person.
