Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council marked the opening of the facility on Thursday morning. Councillors gathered at the popular green space to see the equipment unveiled.

The gym features several exercise stations, including a resistance cross trainer, monkey bars and a calisthenics circuit. It is designed to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

The equipment is free to use and will be available all year round. Residents can make use of the facility while enjoying one of the village’s best-used outdoor areas.

The project was funded through the Community Infrastructure Levy, a charge paid by developers to support local infrastructure and community facilities as areas expand.

Councillor Diane Archer, Vice Chair of Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council, said:

“I am absolutely delighted to declare this new outdoor gym officially open.

“The gym is a fun and enjoyable space that encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active, improve their fitness and enjoy the Weir Field in a whole new way.

“This really demonstrates how parish councils can be a force for good in their local communities.”

The parish council said the installation forms part of its wider efforts to improve amenities, promote healthier lifestyles and create inclusive spaces for residents.

With summer approaching, the council is encouraging people to visit Weir Field and try the new equipment.
