First-time buyer apartments launch at Wichelstowe

A brand-new collection of two-bedroom apartments has just launched at Canalside, Wichelstowe, offering first-time buyers the chance to step onto the property ladder from £230,000.

Built by David Wilson Redrow South West, the apartments combine style and sustainability with floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, dedicated parking, electric car charging, and photovoltaic roof tiles.

Supporting first-time buyers and key workers

The launch comes as new research (Building Societies Association, July 2025) found that 86% of renters aged 18–24 aspire to own their own home, with more than a quarter expecting to achieve this within five years.

To support that goal, the Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme is available at Canalside, providing up to £25,000 towards a deposit. The scheme has recently expanded to include more frontline roles such as social workers, nursery staff, pharmacists, and NHS response teams, alongside teachers, police officers, firefighters, and many more.

For every £20,000 of a home’s purchase price, key workers receive a £1,000 deposit contribution — meaning a £250,000 home comes with a £12,500 boost towards the deposit.

Living at Wichelstowe

Canalside forms part of the wider Wichelstowe development, a joint venture between Swindon Borough Council, Barratt Homes and David Wilson Redrow South West. Over the next 20 years, the 250-hectare site will deliver 3,000 new homes, schools, community facilities, and over 200 acres of green space.

Residents will enjoy 12km of nature trails, play areas, allotments, and waterside walks along the Wilts & Berks Canal — all within easy reach of Swindon town centre, Junction 16 of the M4, and Swindon train station for quick connections to Bristol and London.
