You know that feeling when you walk into your bedroom, and it just feels so comfortable? You can relax, kick off your shoes, put on some music.

design a bedroom

It’s a place where the day starts or ends. A space to recharge after a long day at work or school.

But sometimes, our bedrooms are cluttered with clothes strewn everywhere, dated furniture, posters from high school hanging up on the wall. So here we are to tell you how to make your bedroom look stunning.

Choose a subtle colour

Because your bedroom is a space for relaxation, bold colours won’t do. Paint the walls a subtler colour. A beige or white will blend in with any other tones you use and create an atmosphere of relaxation.

Colours such as blue or green are soothing. However, the best colours for a bedroom are darker tones, which can help give you a more restful night’s sleep.

Create a focal point with the bed

With so many different styles of beds on offer, it’s no wonder that people are confused about how to make their bedrooms. If you are going for a luxurious look, we recommend you bring in a bed with a headboard.

This will be your focal point and will draw the whole room together. However, if you don’t have much money to spend, do not despair because there are many ways you can make an inexpensive bed look like it was worth thousands of dollars.

To create a focal point using a twin-size frame, add a fluffy duvet and a few pillows. Layer your sheet with the thinnest on top, then add a blanket or another sheet on top of it. Add some more pillows to create an inviting bed for guests.

To make an inexpensive full-size bed look luxurious, use plush mattress covers topped with fluffy comforters and lots of pillows. You can read reviews of mattresses online to help you choose the right one. The more expensive a bed looks, the better it is.

To make a king or queen-sized bed look luxurious, use one fitted sheet with pillowcases and comforters on top. Choose rich-looking fabrics for your sheets to create luxury in the bedroom.

Use lighting to enhance the mood

Lighting is integral to creating the right atmosphere in your bedroom. You can use lamps or fairy lights. It depends on if you like a more light and airy or romantic and cozy feel. If your room is very small, brightening it up with a lamp will make it look bigger.

For romance, use fairy lights around the headboard of your bed and dim lights by your bedside table. For light and airy, use lamps when you are getting ready in the morning or relaxing at night.

If you don’t have any lighting options such as lamps or fairy lights, then use candles. To enhance the atmosphere, find a vase or jar and fill it with your favourite flowers.

Use mirrors to create an illusion of space

Mirrors are a great way to make your room look bigger. You can hang them on the wall either horizontally or vertically, depending on the size.

If you have two small mirrors, you can also place them opposite each other to create an illusion of a window.

Cover up your things

It’s best to have a wardrobe or chest of drawers in which you can put your clothes away. If it’s too much effort going into the closet every time when you’re looking for something, hanging planks on the wall with pegs is also a good idea.

You can use it to hold coats and scarfs during winter. You can also increase the number of storage options in the room. Use baskets to store spare blankets and toys. You can also use your bed’s headboard and footboard to create cool storage options.

Invest in good bed linens

When speaking of a stunning bedroom, you can’t forget your bedsheets. Linens will draw the whole look together. They come in many colours, patterns, and fabrics such as linen, silk, or cotton.

The type of fabric you choose will depend on your lifestyle. Cotton is good for those who live a busy lifestyle, as it’s durable and easy to care for.

Silk sheets are softer, but also pricier and can be a bit difficult to clean and maintain. Linen sheets are breathable, comfortable, and great for those who live in warmer climates.

Colours are important too. White sheets will look the cleanest, but you might want to consider other colours too. However, if you want striking contrasts, use dark bedding. Dark bedding is an easy way to make your bedroom stand out.

For example, if you have light coloured walls, then choose a darker colour of sheets.

Bring in the bed frame

Depending on your budget and design taste, this choice is up to you. If you want a complete change of style, bring in a new bed frame.

If you are feeling adventurous, go for an antique style bed frame. There are also many modern designs that will look beautiful in any bedroom.

For a light and airy look, choose a metal frame. If you like rustic decor, use wood or leather. For classic French country style, go for traditional wrought iron.

Don’t forget the windows

Don’t forget to clean your windows and blinds. This is one thing so many people tend to forget, but it’s an easy step for a huge change. During the day natural light will flood into the room making it look bigger, cleaner, and inviting.

For a stunning look, invest in window treatments. Blinds are a great choice, but drapes can also look attractive. They come in many different materials and styles including Roman, blackout, sheer, pleated and roman styles.

Accessorise

It’s little touches that make your bedroom stand out for luxury. Accessories create a beautiful look. Place lamps on either side of the bed for an instant upgrade. You can also add touches like throw pillows, candles, and cushions.

Accessories are not only used to decorate your bedroom but can come in useful too. For example, a stool or table beside your bed is a great place to keep books, tissues, and your reading glasses.

A few extra tips are: hang up family pictures or create a gallery wall of favourite photos. Don’t go overboard with accessories as this can make the room look cluttered. Choose carefully and keep to an organised theme of luxury.

You can now say you know how to create the bedroom of your dreams. Make sure to take care of all these little details, and it will be well worth the time spent.
