Celebrating a ‘Friendiversary’ – A Guide to Celebrating the Years

It goes without saying that friends are important. Our social circles are often what’s keeping us together, and our friendships can help us weather even the toughest of events. It can be said that your bond as friends extends beyond even the limits of your relationships with family; the saying ‘blood is thicker than water’ is in fact a contraction of a longer, contradictory phrase: ‘the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb’.

Friends

With this in mind, the bond you share with your best friend is just as important as any family celebration – if not more important. Consider the ‘friendiversary’ – a landmark occasion to celebrate the day on which you fell into each other’s company. This truly is a day for commemoration – though you may struggle in figuring out exactly how to commemorate it… The following tips can help you celebrate your relationship with your bestie in the best possible way.

A Trip Away

One of the best ways you can celebrate the milestone occasion together is by taking a joint trip away. There are so many options for a friendiversary trip, from international cruises to quick European city breaks – but sometimes the simplest is the best.

A domestic holiday to a beautiful location like Cornwall could be the backdrop for a fantastic celebratory trip and a chance to relax; you could even consider picking up a luxury vacation accommodation, creating a home from home for your family and friends and a great private place to celebrate the big occasions.

An Unforgettable Experience

If you don’t quite have the time or budget for an extended trip away, why not shift your focus to a different kind of shared activity – perhaps a unique experience you can share to commemorate the occasion? Events like wine tastings are perfect for a small group, while experiences of a more bespoke sort can be found via experience day providers – including track days with supercars and hot air balloon rides.

Feeding the Soul

With the bond you and your friend share being so vast and deep, your choices of gift could extend to those same depths – beyond the traditional, and into the near-spiritual. You could choose gifts that soothe the mind, from beautiful scented candles to flowers and even mindfulness aids like incense.

The Personal Touch

No gift to a dear friend is complete without a personal touch. Holidays and experience together are inherently personal, but even the gifting of a bottle of champagne can be made unique with the right approach. All manner of customisable gifts are available online today, including engraved, embossed or otherwise personalised bottles of bubbly.

But to really drive the importance of your friendship home, you can leverage keepsakes and mementos from your time together to really ramp up the sentimentality. Why not make your own card, incorporating a collage of polaroid and photobooth pictures taken together?
