Momo King, Old Town, on Devizes Road, will hold its Together for Nepal charity buffet on Sunday, 13th September, with £10 from every £25 booking going directly to the Government of Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
The event will run from midday until 10pm, with an all-day Nepalese buffet being served as the restaurant raises money for communities devastated by catastrophic flooding.
For owner Sushil and his team, the disaster is thousands of miles away, but its impact is deeply personal. He said:
“Nepal is our home and seeing what has happened to so many families is heartbreaking. People have lost loved ones, homes and everything they have built, and there are still thousands of families waiting for news.
“We are fortunate to have built a business here in Swindon and to have had so much support from the local community, so we felt we had to do something.
“On Sunday we want people to come together, enjoy Nepalese food and know that by sitting down for a meal they are also helping people who desperately need support. If we can fill the restaurant throughout the day, together we can send a significant contribution from Swindon to Nepal.”
Nepal is still dealing with the aftermath of the catastrophic floods which struck on 26th August after a glacier collapse triggered a huge surge of water through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river system.
The latest official update from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published today on Sunday, 6th September, says 1,341 bodies have now been recovered and around 5,000 people remain missing, including approximately 600 foreign nationals. More than 13,000 people have been rescued.
The Government of Nepal has made an international appeal for financial assistance towards search and rescue operations, emergency relief and the enormous task of rebuilding communities.
Survivors in some of the worst affected areas have been left without homes, electricity and basic possessions, while humanitarian organisations are distributing food, blankets, clothing, shelter materials and hygiene supplies.

The fundraiser also comes as the Nepalese government stresses that the emergency is moving beyond the immediate search for survivors towards the longer process of housing displaced families and rebuilding shattered communities.
The Nepalese Embassy in London has also issued its own appeal for people in the UK to contribute to the official disaster fund, warning donors to use officially designated channels.
