The inaugural Longevity Relay takes place next Saturday, 4th July, at Moredon Sporting Hub, inviting teams of all abilities to take on an endurance challenge that is as much about teamwork and community as it is about running.
Whether you’re an experienced club runner chasing victory or simply looking for a memorable day out with friends, organisers say the relay has been designed so anyone can take part.
Teams can enter as solo runners, pairs or groups of three to six people, sharing the challenge by handing over an electronic timing baton throughout the day. The aim is simple, keep your team moving for as many laps as possible between 9am and 9pm.
The 4.5-mile route combines closed roads, cycle paths and woodland trails, taking runners through Shaw Woods before returning to Moredon Sporting Hub, creating a course designed to test endurance while remaining accessible to a wide range of abilities.
The event is the latest initiative from Tim Howe, founder of The Longevity Games and nicknamed ‘The Joe Wicks of Swindon’ whose ambition is to make Swindon the fittest town in Britain by encouraging more people to become active through community rather than competition.
The relay follows the biggest Longevity Games event to date, held in May at Foundation Park, where almost 200 people, from complete beginners to experienced athletes, came together to celebrate movement, fitness and community.
Rather than creating another race solely for seasoned runners, the Longevity Relay has been built around the idea that exercise is more enjoyable when it’s shared. Families, workplaces, sports clubs, charities and friendship groups are all being encouraged to form teams and experience the challenge together.
Organisers hope the event will become a fixture on Swindon’s sporting calendar, helping to inspire more residents to discover the physical and mental benefits of staying active.
Every entrant will receive a medal, while trophies will be awarded across multiple categories, ensuring there is something to compete for whether your goal is setting the fastest time or simply crossing the finish line together.
With entries still open, organisers are now calling on running clubs from across Swindon and Wiltshire to see who can claim the title of the town’s toughest team.
The Longevity Relay starts at 9am on Saturday, 4th July, at Moredon Sporting Hub, with the final runners finishing at 9pm. Entries remain open till Saturday 28th June at 9pm through The Longevity Games website.
