The two kilometre run will take place every Sunday at 9am and is open to youngsters aged 4 to 14. It focuses on fun, confidence and community rather than competition.

Organisers say the event offers families a chance to get outdoors, stay active and meet others in a relaxed setting.

Moredon Sporting Hub becomes the third junior parkrun venue in Swindon, joining the wider national parkrun initiative which promotes free, community-led physical activity.

Aurélie Soulier, Co-Event Director, said:

“We are incredibly excited to finally bring junior parkrun to the Moredon Sporting Hub. Our goal is to create a welcoming, pressure-free environment where local children can build confidence and enjoy being outdoors. It’s not about being the fastest, it’s about taking part and having fun.”

Families are encouraged to walk or cycle to the venue where possible.

Children should arrive by 8.50am for a briefing and group warm-up before the run begins at 9am.

The event has been supported with funding from Wiltshire and Swindon Sport and Moredon Sporting Hub, which is part of Central Swindon North Parish Council. Like all parkrun events, it will be delivered entirely by local volunteers.

Claire Gallagher, Co-Event Director and parkrun Ambassador, said:

“The Moredon Sporting Hub will now host the third junior parkrun in Swindon, demonstrating a wonderful commitment to the health and wellbeing of young people in the town. We cannot wait to see our junior parkrun grow and thrive.”

She added:

“We welcome interest from local schools, sports clubs and families to join us, whether that is to run or walk, volunteer or spectate.”

The new event will also strengthen links with the wider parkrun community, supporting children as they grow in confidence before moving on to five kilometre events.

Phil Jefferies, Event Director for Seven Fields parkrun, said:

“It’s fantastic to see the new junior parkrun launching at Moredon Sporting Hub. At Seven Fields parkrun, we’re really excited to be working closely with the team there and building strong links between the two events.”

He said: “This is a great opportunity to inspire young children in the area to get active, build healthy habits, and hopefully continue their parkrun journey into the 5k events as they grow.”

Participation is free but children must register online in advance to receive a barcode, which allows them to record their times and earn milestone wristbands.

Organisers are also calling for more volunteers to help run the weekly sessions, including marshals, timekeepers and supporters around the course.
