Highworth has secured full funding for a new 3G stadia pitch at the Highworth Town Football Club site, paving the way for one of the town’s largest grassroots sports investments in decades.
Highworth Town Council confirmed that the project now has both the money and planning consent required to move into delivery. Funding has been provided by the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation, alongside contributions from Highworth Town Council, Swindon Borough Council and other partners.
Councillor Julie Murphy, Mayor of Highworth, said the announcement marks a milestone for the town.
“A tremendous day for Highworth. At long last, thanks to the tireless work and partnership between our local football clubs and the Football Foundation, we have secured the site, planning permission and the funding to make this 3G pitch a reality.”
The project fulfils a long-held ambition by volunteers, coaches and community groups who have been calling for a reliable all-weather surface to support local football.
A 3G pitch is a third-generation artificial surface designed to replicate natural grass while remaining resilient to heavy use and harsh weather. These surfaces offer consistent playing conditions throughout the year and reduce the risk of cancellations that often affect grass pitches.
The Council says the facility is intended to serve the whole community, with Highworth Town Football Club teams expected to be among the primary users. This includes junior, senior, women’s and girls’ squads.
Highworth Town Football Club said on facebook,
“A brilliant day for our town, community and football clubs.”
The new pitch is intended to operate as a community hub rather than a single-club site, supporting a wide range of programmes and year-round football activity.
Construction is expected to progress over the coming months. The full press release can be found at www.highworthtowncouncil.gov.uk
