The former Swindon Town striker has been confirmed for the fixture this Sunday 3rd May 2026, adding further local interest to the high-profile event.

The match will see Team M.A.T.E face Team Harvey, bringing together celebrities, ex-professional footballers and online personalities to raise awareness and funds for Men and Their Emotions, known as M.A.T.E.

The charity was founded by comedian and actor Daniel O’Reilly after his own struggles with addiction and suicidal thoughts. Now three years sober, he has become a vocal advocate for men speaking openly about mental health.

The Swindon event was arranged after local man Gary Read contacted the charity following the death of Swindon resident Steve Bailey, who took his own life after privately battling mental health issues.

Team M.A.T.E is set to include Matt Lapinskas, Tamer Hassan, Joe Cordina, Cole Anderson, Mashtag Brady, Gaz Beadle and Sonny Green, alongside O’Reilly.

Team Harvey will be captained by MC Harvey and feature Neil Ruddock, Jamie O’Hara, Hayden Mullins, Danny Simpson, Leon Britton, Marc Bircham, Kevin Betsy, Derek Asamoah, Courtney Massey, Dean Morgan, Chris Dickson, Andy Powell and Jermaine Rico.

Celebrity guests are also expected to attend, including Olly Murs. Originally listed guest Danny Dyer is no longer attending due to other commitments.

Daniel O’Reilly said:

“This match is about more than football, it’s about showing men that it’s okay to talk, to feel, and to ask for help. We’re bringing big names and big energy to Swindon to save lives and smash the stigma.”

He added:

Gary Read said:

“After losing a close friend to suicide, I’ve seen first-hand how vital groups like M.A.T.E are. Teaming up with Swindon Town and these incredible celebrities will help us reach more men and make a real difference.”

Funds raised through ticket sales and donations will support the charity’s work, including peer support, counselling and housing support for men in crisis.

The match kicks off at 1pm on Sunday 3rd May at the County Ground. Tickets are available now via skiddle.com
