We are appealing for witnesses after a 29-year-old man was seriously assaulted and robbed in Old Town, Swindon during the early hours of Friday 24 March 2018.
The man had been on a night out in the town centre and was walking home when the incident took place in Bath Road at approximately 2.45am.
The victim was approached by two men who offered him a cigarette. An altercation then took place – the victim ran off onto Devizes Road and was struck to the face while trying to call police. His mobile phone was stolen during the assault.
He then flagged down a police car straight after the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. He received several fractures to his face.
Detective Constable Chris Hughes, of Swindon CID, said: “This was a nasty assault by two people who were not known to the victim.
“Following an exchange over a cigarette, the victim was seriously assaulted and then had his phone stolen as he attempted to get away to safety and request the help of police. He sustained serious injury to his face during this incident and whilst it was late at night, we are asking that anyone who happened to see or hear this incident take place or anyone who has CCTV footage in the area, to get in touch with police.”
Following extensive enquiries by officers, two 18-year-old men from Swindon, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and GBH and remain in custody at Gablecross for questioning.
