Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman has died in hospital following a collision in Swindon which happened before Christmas.

The woman, who was 77 years old, was walking through the Waitrose car park, in Mill Lane, Wichelstowe, at around 7.40am on 22 December 2018, when she was struck by a van.

Initially her injuries were not believed to be serious and she was taken to Great Western Hospital by ambulance.

However, her condition deteriorated and she was subsequently transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

She had suffered serious head injuries and sadly died in hospital  on 1st January 2019.

The vehicle involved was a small red Ford Escort van and the driver was spoken to by officers on the day of the collision.

PC Rich Hatch, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I would firstly like to offer our condolences to the woman’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would like to speak to anyone who was in the car park at the time of the collision and either saw the van prior to the collision, or who witnessed the incident itself.

“Also, if anyone has dash cam footage, then please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact Wiltshire Police on 101 quoting Log 105 of 22/12/18. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
