Simon Charles Hinton, age 48 of Heanor, Derbyshire, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods and Stuart Alexander Barker, age 41, of no fixed abode, Swindon pleaded guilty to burglary.

In the morning of 9 March, a house in Barrow Close, Marlborough, was broken in to. Bedrooms were searched and jewellery was stolen including gold earrings, chains and bracelets.

Witnesses took details of the vehicle used by Barker and Hinton and it was spotted on the M4 shortly after 1pm by Roads Policing Officers. A number of the jewellery items stolen were recovered from the vehicle and the pair were arrested and later charged.

Both appeared in court in Swindon today and Hinton received a 12 month custodial sentence while Barker was sentenced to 40 months imprisonment.

Detective Constable Kimberley Weston said: “I am very pleased that these two men have received custodial sentences for the parts they played in this crime.

“I’d like to thank the witnesses who were able to pass a detailed description of the vehicle and offenders on to police quickly, which led to their vehicle being stopped swiftly on the M4.”

“This incident left the victims feeling the memories they had created, and everything that made their house a home, was now tainted.

“I hope that the result today goes some way in helping them recover from this ordeal.”
