Two additional drop-in events have been organised to enable people to view proposals for four major transport schemes in the east of Swindon.

The transport improvement schemes have been drawn up as part of the New Eastern Villages (NEV) development, which will see about 8,000 homes, schools and new businesses built on land east of the A419 over the coming years.

In order to cater for the additional increase in traffic, improvements are being proposed for the White Hart Junction, while a scheme to improve the A420 Gablecross Junction and plans for the Great Stall Bridge and Southern Connector Road are also being proposed.

Plans for all four major transport schemes will be shown to members of the public at two events next month.

Council officers will be on hand on Saturday, 3 March in the main hall of Grange Leisure Centre, Grange Drive, SN3 4JY between 9am and 1pm to answer any questions.

A second event will also be held on Monday, 5 March at Hooper’s Field Sports Hall, Rotten Row, Wanborough, SN4 0AN between 3pm and 7pm.

Cllr Toby Elliott, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Sustainability, said: “The New Eastern Villages is hugely important for Swindon and, as the UK’s largest greenfield urban extension, it is important we plan appropriately and put in the necessary infrastructure to support the development.

“We had an excellent turnout for our first drop-in session at Coleview Community Centre last month where we received lots of important feedback from residents, so we want more of the same from these next two sessions.

“Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions local residents may have and will also be able to dispel any myths and rumours about the schemes. For example, I have spent a considerable amount of time over the last few weeks confirming to local residents that the Ermin Street Bridge will remain open and it will be part of the preferred option for the redesign of the White Hart junction in its open state.

“Local people have an important part to play and the two drop-in events are good opportunities for them to view the plans, find out more information about the schemes and put forward any views they may have.”

Plans on each of the schemes are available to view at: www.swindon.gov.uk/NEV
