Mary creates vibrant and colourful artwork, experimenting with various media. She is currently using oil paint, linocut, and felt. Her work is on a variety of subjects, from architecture and industry to nature.
She is interested in cities and the way that people interact with them by the routes they travel. She said this is a result of her previous work: “I taught orientation and mobility skills to people with visual impairment, often helping students find their way around towns when they move for university”.
She trained at Bretton Hall, which she describes as a small art college in the middle of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, walking through a cattle farm every morning to reach the studio. Her work is influenced by many of the places she has travelled to in the UK and beyond: “I am always looking out for interesting angles and unusual views with rooftops, chimneys and alleyways”.
As part of Swindon Open Studios she is opening her studio to the public. From 11am-5pm on the 9th and 10th, 16th and 17th of September.
This will be at 8 Cardigan Close, Lawns, SN31EX. It is off Wigmore Avenue, close to the number 12 bus route. It is also very close to the Lawns park, if you’d like to join it with a walk from Old Town where several other artists are opening their studios. Please call Mary on 07934 446366 for more information.
