A Swindon flooring retailer has marked its first anniversary by donating flooring which has helped a local homeless family to begin furnishing their new property.

In response to a request from the supported housing team at Swindon Borough Council, Flooring Superstore has donated over £500 worth of carpet and vinyl flooring.

The flooring has been used to help a family moving from one of the council’s supported housing schemes to their own council property.

Karina West, Supported Housing at Swindon Borough Council, explained: “We have five schemes providing temporary accommodation for families who have become homeless, and they remain with us until they are able to move into their own council property.

“They generally have little money and are moving into a home with few, if any, possessions, to furnish a property.

“Carpeting a property can be expensive and we therefore approached local flooring companies and were delighted when Flooring Superstore came forward with their amazing donation.

“The carpet and vinyl flooring they have provided will give one of our families a great start in their new home, and we would like to thank them for their support.”

Richard Stickney, Manager of Flooring Superstore, which is based on the Bridgemead Retail Park, said: “We were delighted to be able to help the supported housing team and hope the flooring gives a family a nice start in their new home.

“We opened Flooring Superstore in February 2018, so we couldn’t think of a more fitting way to mark our 1st anniversary in Swindon by supporting an initiative like this.”

Flooring Superstore created five jobs for local people when the 7,500-square foot store opened last year.

It brings together three brands – Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct. The brands are owned by Connection Retail, a flooring company which started life as an online business but which now also has 12 physical stores across the UK, with more openings planned in 2019.
