Freelancing gives you the opportunity to work from any location, which is why many freelancers see the start of their self-employed career as the perfect time to move. Whether this is to a new city altogether, or even just down the road, when you decide to move, you’ll likely be unavailable for a few weeks, and may even want to look for new clients. Then, there are some vital steps that you can take to ensure that you have a smooth transition to a new area.

Look for Shared Office Spaces

Freelancing can get lonely, especially when you a living in a new city. To get to know people in your area while staying productive, you should look for a shared office space where you can work outside of your home office in an environment that caters to your needs. Whether you are looking for new clients, or just want to network with other freelancers, shared office spaces can allow you to stay a part of your community, even if you do not visit to do any work! If you are looking for desk space Shoreditch, you can rent efficient co-working spaces to help you find a peaceful workplace in a hectic city.

Find Events in Your Local Area

Not only this but if you are attempting to find new clients or other freelancers in your area, you should check out the local events. Many networking circles run events where you can meet other businesses, exchange advice, give out your business card and get to know the local area. What’s more, you can find events on websites such as Meetup, which works perfectly alongside your business needs. Even if not solely focused on businesses, local events can be a great opportunity to understand your target market and meet new people, who may become potential clients in the future.

Access Social Media

Social media is a great place to see what is going on in your local area. By creating a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account, you are giving yourself the opportunity to interact with other businesses, find out about any events, and follow the local news. You can also use social media as the perfect place to then advertise your business on your own page.

Update Your Details

If you are moving away from your original location, you should remember to change your details on all of your social media and websites. Doing so will ensure that you not only keep customers updated but that local businesses can find your website more easily. Changing your location can also be used to utilise local SEO and ensure that Google ranks your site highly on location-based searches.

Contact Your Clients

Although the move may be exciting, you should always remember to contact current clients. Your location will not affect your ability to work for your client, but you should let them know that you are still able to work for them. Not only this, but the practicalities of the move may leave you unavailable for a few weeks, meaning that you may need extensions on existing deadlines.
