Wiltshire Police is appealing for witnesses after a shop worker was assaulted after he tried to stop a shop-lifter stealing from his store.

Around 6.55pm on Thursday 15 June 2017 an unknown man walked in to the Co-op on Cavendish Square, Swindon and took a number of joints of meat, leaving the store without attempting to pay for them.

The member of staff chased after the man and managed to grab hold of him but the offender then assaulted the worker with what’s believed to have been a screwdriver causing scratches to his abdomen.  He then ran off empty handed.

A picture of a man officers would like to speak to is attached.

PC Hannah Cox said:  “We would like to speak to anyone who recognises this man or anyone who heard or saw the incident in or outside of the shop around about this time on the evening in question.”

If you can help with our enquiries please contact PC Hannah Cox on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
