A 16-year-old boy from Swindon has been sentenced to an eight-months detention order following the theft of a motorbike in the town.

The youth pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods after being caught riding the bike at Kingsdown Woods on Sunday 30 April 2017, which had been stolen from a Swindon property in December 2016.

He also pleaded guilty to riding whilst disqualified and breaching a remand condition of not being allowed to be in the borough of Swindon.

Yesterday (17 May 2017) at Swindon Magistrates Court he was given a custodial sentence at a Youth Offenders Institution for four-months; once released he will be required to carry out four-months reparation work with the youth offending team.

PC Leigh Vowles said:  “This is a very good result – the custodial sentence is thanks to the hard work we do to actively target persistent offenders.
“Our work continues too – finding those who are guilty of making the lives of innocent people difficult because of their selfish actions.”

If you have been a victim of crime or witnessed a crime please report it via 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
