The installation, delivered by Arkell’s Brewery in partnership with Harlequin Group, represents a £90,000 investment in the popular Coate Water pub.
The upgraded area includes equipment designed for a range of age groups.
Features include a mini multi-play unit for younger children, toddler, junior and team swings, a play trail, a larger multi-play structure for older children and sensory play panels.
The entire area has been finished with bright blue safety surfacing to enhance both safety and accessibility while reinforcing the space theme.
George Arkell, Managing Director at Arkell’s Brewery, said: “The Sun Inn is a wonderful family pub and, having invested over £90,000 in upgrading the play area to create a modern, safe space, we hope it will be a great addition for customers and their families when they visit.”

The project comes ahead of the busy spring and summer period, when visitor numbers increase around Coate Water.
Arkell’s, which was established in 1843, operates nearly 100 pubs across the region and remains one of the UK’s last family-run breweries.
The company said the investment reflects its continued focus on family-friendly venues and community spaces.

Nikola Andrews, Director at Harlequin Group, said: “Delivering projects like this one in our local community is always special for us. We are a family-run business and have young children ourselves, so not only are we helping to improve facilities locally, we will also get to enjoy the play area with our own family.”
Harlequin Group, which is based in Swindon, was responsible for the design and installation of the new equipment.
The revamped play area is now open to customers visiting The Sun Inn.
