Rob, who founded the Swindon-based digital marketing firm The Pursuit Agency, has launched Managing Marketing’s Messy Middle: 100 Pages to Clean Up the Mess.

The book focuses on what he describes as the ‘messy middle’ of business, the stage between gaining attention and prompting customers to take action.

“The book was really born out of frustration with the amount of fluffy marketing advice out there. I wanted to create something practical, something business owners could open, read for five minutes, and immediately apply to improve their marketing,” he said.

Drawing on his experience of building The Pursuit Agency, Rob shares frameworks and exercises designed to help businesses understand why their marketing efforts are not converting into customers.

He said many firms are carrying out the “right” marketing activity, but struggle when it comes to turning attention into sales.

Reflecting on how the book came together, Rob said: “The book originated as a collection of frameworks and notes I had been building for clients at The Pursuit Agency, filled with little models and exercises to help businesses diagnose why their marketing wasn’t converting.

“Eventually I realised those ideas were bigger than internal tools and instead of writing a traditional long-form marketing book, I designed a field guide, 100 short, practical insights that help business owners clean up the “messy middle” of their marketing.”

The book includes lessons learned from years of trial and error, as well as practical strategies intended to give business owners greater clarity.

“Most businesses don’t have a marketing problem; they have a clarity problem. They’re creating more content when the real issue is that their audience doesn’t yet feel confident enough to buy. If this book helps even a handful of businesses turn their marketing into something that actually drives revenue, then it’s done is job.”

Rob also speaks openly about his experience as an ADHD entrepreneur, describing his thinking style as working in squiggly lines.

“That’s exactly what helps me spot and solve the gaps most marketers miss. I wouldn’t be where I was without my ADHD,” he continued.

“My inspirations are many but honestly, a lot of my inspiration comes from the businesses I work with. Watching founders solve real problems, build teams, and grow their companies is endlessly motivating.”

The Pursuit Agency supports organisations with digital marketing services including SEO, pay per click advertising and content marketing.

Among its clients are Helen Browning’s Organic, Avrion, Filestream, WeAnswer, Milroys and Aegina.

Managing Marketing’s Messy Middle: 100 Pages to Clean Up the Mess is available online at Amazon.
