When it comes to popular destinations for gaming events, places like Swindon and Wiltshire are likely not the first spring into people’s minds; however, there are plenty of unique events going on throughout the year in the area. From friendly game nights to competitive tournaments, there is something for everyone to enjoy at these gaming events. Whether you prefer to play board games or online games, you can find an event that is right for you. Below we will go through 4 gaming events in the Swindon and Wiltshire area that are not to be missed.

Flames of War 2023 Competition

First up on this list is the Flames of War 2023 Competition held by the Devizes & District Wargames Group on the 15th and 16th of July this summer. Players will go head to head, commanding their army and using the strategic positioning of their fleet to try and outsmart their opponent and claim victory. Flames of War is a tabletop miniatures wargame in which each player will take it, in turn, to move their pieces and roll dice to determine the outcome of their decisions. Two games will be played on the 15th and 16th, each lasting 3 hours. If you are interested in participating, registration starts at 9:00 am on both days, and the final games will end at 4:00 pm.

Gloucestershire Retro Gaming Championship

Up next on this list is the Gloucestershire Retro Gaming Championship which is scheduled to take place on the 10th of December this year at The Retro Cave in Chalford. Players in this tournament will play five retro games, and whoever finishes with the most points will be crowned champion and win a trophy. Nowadays, a lot of games are played using the internet. A great example of the most popular games includes MOBAs such as Dota 2 and League of Legends and other games like online slots UK; however, the fun of retro games should be noticed.

There is great fun to be had playing classic games that have stood the test of time and are still being played. One of the games being played in this retro gaming championship is DOOM which will be the 30th anniversary of the game on the day of the tournament. The entry fee is £50, which will support the County’s young people, which means that your participation in the contest will go towards a good cause. Why not see if you still have what it takes to come out on top in some of the most popular classic video games and claim the trophy?

#iWill Gaming Night

The #iWill Gaming Night event is being held on the 18th of July at The Bridge in Andover. It offers those aged 10-20 a fantastic chance to play various games on a selection of consoles and even VR headsets. The event runs from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm and is completely free for those who want to come along and play games that they might not get the chance to enjoy otherwise. If you aren’t busy, why not meet those who are also interested in video games? You can play against the others attending the event and maybe even make new friends.

Warhammer 40,000 Narrative Event

The final gaming event on this list is for those interested in Warhammer. The Warhammer 40,000 Narrative Event is the perfect opportunity for fans of the miniatures wargame to show off their skills in building and commanding an army. Different factions will have particular objectives to complete in the fight for the God Emperor. The event is useless and very popular, with many people attending to see if they have what it takes to succeed in battle. Everyone is super excited about the game and has a strong passion for Warhammer, making it the perfect place to meet others with similar interests as you. If you are interested in attending the Warhammer 40,000 Narrative Event, you can purchase tickets for £25 and book your slot before they run out.

So there you have it; now you know 4 of the most popular gaming events held in the Swindon and Wiltshire area this year. Various gaming events are happening, meaning there should be something of interest to everyone. Don’t hesitate to book your tickets early before they sell them if there is an event that you do want to attend.
