Construction Workwear by Season

Construction is an industry that comes with many risks for its workers. Indeed, between 2018 and 2021, there was an average of 61,000 non-fatal injuries to workers every year. One way to mitigate this is by purchasing the appropriate workwear for your employees. This can limit the damage incurred in an accident and it can also provide added comfort. Below, we explore the importance of seasonal construction workwear.

High Vis

Winter or early spring

Winter and early spring are hard for construction workers. It’s going to be dark, cold and miserable working outside. But the right workwear can make these conditions much more tolerable. For a start, you should purchase workwear that can provide insulation while also being easy to layer – this can protect against the cold. On top of this, you’ll need waterproof items that can keep your staff warm and dry.

Late spring or early summer

The temperature can be inconsistent around late spring and early summer. This makes the ability to layer your clothing crucial. Make sure you provide items that can easily be layered on and off. Undershirts, vests and hats all work well in this regard. Lightweight waterproofs are also an excellent way of fending off the rain without overheating.

Summer

It can be easy to grow complacent about workwear when the sun’s out and temperatures are soaring, but the right clothing is still crucial. Without the right care, continuous exposure to sunlight can give you heat stroke and sunburn in the short term, and over a longer period, it can cause serious health problems. Short-sleeved hi-vis tops can work well in summer, as can polo shirts. Meanwhile, you should also purchase comfortable shorts to allow your employees to avoid overheating in trousers. On top of this, you should allow your staff to take regular breaks in the shade and they should have access to plenty of water. Workwear only performs optimally as part of a wider well-being strategy.

Autumn or early winter

Around autumn, the weather will be inconsistent again and you’ll need to prepare for cold mornings at least. Suddenly experiencing cold weather usually affects the extremities most. As such, you should invest in gloves and heavy-duty socks at least. On top of this, a breathable thermal layer, plus warm hats can make it easier to deal with the weather in early winter too. Again, layering is crucial as the weather changes quickly at this time of year.

Getting the right workwear for your employees can make a big difference. It’ll make life more comfortable and boost morale on your site. And by following the seasonal advice above, you should be all set to purchase the best workwear.
