The benefits of buying a used car

Brand new vehicles look good. Shining in a dealership or whizzing around in tv adverts, it’s easy to see why people are attracted to buying their vehicles brand new.

used cars

Yet, by doing so they’re missing out on many benefits that come with buying used cars. Some of them are obvious and some are less easy to see. Believe it or not, there are even some used cars that are worth more than new ones!

To make sure that you don’t miss out, we’ve put together this short guide. In it, we’ll discuss the benefits of buying a used car that we think are best. Keep reading to find out what they are.

No waiting

New car dealerships don’t always have models readily available. This can leave you waiting a long time for the model that you’ve purchased to be ordered in.

On the other hand, used cars are often ready to drive off the lot on the same day.

Regardless of which part of the country you’re in, whether you’re in London, in Edinburgh, or in Birmingham, used cars are ready to go in many dealerships.

Save money

Despite it being obvious, it’s worth pointing out that used cars cost less to buy than brand new ones. You can find used cars that are in near new condition that cost much less than the same model brand new, saving you thousands on the cost of purchase.

But there’s more. It’s always much cheaper to tax and register a used vehicle. Insurance costs less for used cars, and parts and repairs are usually cheaper compared to the latest models.

Less depreciation

When you buy a used car, you’re less likely to lose a huge chunk of money compared to what you bought it for. This one might sound a little counter-intuitive, but used cars actually lose their value more slowly.

It’s easier for brand new cars to depreciate because they cost more. But depreciation also increases in proportion to the mileage of the car, which will see its largest percentage increase in the first year of use. Used car owners have less to worry about on this front.

More choice

Used car dealerships usually house a multitude of brands from across a range of time, meaning the number of options that you can choose from is larger than for brand new cars.

You also won’t need to settle for expensive dealership add-ons if you want to customise your used car. You’ll have plenty of options and may even be able to install your own at a far lower cost.

There are a huge number of benefits to buying a used car rather than a brand new one. Which benefit is your favourite?
