Swindon will be getting spookier this year thanks to Lotmead Farm announcing the expansion of their Pick Your Own with the launch of their pumpkin field.

From 14 October, Lotmead will be offering visitors the chance to pick their own pumpkin in a dedicated area of the farm.  This also means that the PYO, which traditionally closes at the start of October, will now not close for the season until the end of October.

Farm Manager John Meaden explained: “For the past few years we have had a number of people asking us if we could offer pumpkins and I’m pleased to now be able to add them to the list of 14 fruits and vegetables that have been available at Lotmead over the season.

“A variety of different sized pumpkins, as well as squashes and gourds will be available whilst stocks last in the run up to Halloween.  We will also have carving kits and accessories, as well as plenty of spooky inspiration to get everyone in the Halloween spirit.   There will also be a pumpkin picture hunt for children across the play area, as well as hot drinks and snacks available from the café.

“Lotmead normally closes in early October for the season in order for us to prepare for our Christmas trees sales in November and our seasonal reopening the following May.  However, pumpkins enable us to stay open longer through October, although this will be on shorter days as a result of the darker afternoons which can make choosing the perfect pumpkin a little harder!”
