The sounds of Swindon’s Young Musicians will reverberate around the Wyvern Theatre later this month when they hold their annual Gala concert.

The musical extravaganza will take place on Thursday, 19 July and will showcase the very best of Swindon Young Musicians including the percussion ensemble, guitar ensemble, clarinet choir, saxophone quartet, jazz orchestra, senior wind band and youth choir.

The choir will also feature a performance from the national award-winning Una Voce, a six-part acapella vocal group who will have just returned for their performance at the Birmingham Symphony Hall.

In addition to the exciting array of musical talent on display, the concert will also have some very special guests.

The Waterloo Band and Bugles of the Rifles will also be performing with the youngsters, allowing the young musicians of Swindon to play alongside professional musicians in the second half of the concert. It will also feature two young soloists playing with the army band in Alexander Harris (French horn) and Nathanial Evans (clarinet).

One of the highlights of the concert will be a guest performance by one of Swindon’s premier Soprano soloists Lynn Hawkins.

Lynn is currently the Singing Champion for Swindon and works closely with Swindon schools as well as heading up Swindon Young Musicians. Lynn’s performance will be especially poignant, as it will be the last time that Major Peter Clark will direct The Waterloo Band. Major Clark will retire from the army in February 2019 after 47 years’ service.

Cllr Mary Martin, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and School Attainment, said: “The Swindon Young Musicians Gala concert is a truly uplifting experience and I would encourage anyone who enjoys music to pop down to the Wyvern to hear these fantastic young people play their instruments.

“We are also extremely lucky to be able to welcome The Waterloo Band and Bugles of the Rifles and Una Voice who will showcase their own tremendous musical talents. The fact it will also be Major Clark’s last performance with The Waterloo Band just makes the concert that little bit special.”

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets, which cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions, can be bought via the Wyvern’s website at: https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-swindon-young-musicians-gala-2018
