The 34 year old centre-back’s extension is seen as a significant boost to head coach Ian Holloway as he prepares his squad for next season.

Tafazolli joined the Robins in August 2025 following his departure from Wycombe Wanderers.

Despite an injury-hit campaign, he established himself as a key figure in Swindon’s defence and a strong presence in the dressing room.

Standing at 6ft 5in, Tafazolli began his career with Southampton FC before spells at Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Hull City and Wycombe.

During his time at Peterborough, he was named the club’s Player of the Season and Best Defender in the 2016/17 campaign.

His first season in Wiltshire was disrupted by a fractured elbow suffered towards the end of the 2025/26 season, which threatened to cut short his involvement during Swindon’s push near the League Two play-off places.

However, his leadership and experience have been viewed as central to Holloway’s plans moving forward.

Ian Holloway said: “Ryan is a top professional and someone who brings so much to this football club. His experience, leadership, and calmness are hugely important for us, and you can see the impact he has on the players around him every single day.

“He’s a real leader both on and off the pitch and having characters like Ryan in your squad is absolutely vital. I’m delighted he’s staying with us because he’ll play a massive role in what we’re trying to achieve moving forward.”

The new deal forms part of ongoing preparations at the County Ground as Swindon look to build momentum ahead of the new League Two season.

For supporters, retaining a player of Tafazolli’s experience represents a statement of intent as the club aims to strengthen its position in the division.
