The event was fully funded by Haydon Wick Parish Council as part of its continued investment in youth provision.

Children of primary school age through to older teenagers attended the session. The skate park was filled with encouragement as beginners attempted their first drop in and experienced riders pushed themselves further.

Despite the winter chill, organisers said the atmosphere remained positive and respectful throughout.

Leanne Stevenson attended the event and highlighted the importance of engaging young people in accessible settings.

She said:

“As someone with a youth background, I know how important it is to engage young people on their terms. Today was exactly that. Open conversations, honest feedback and visible confidence building. The impact of giving young people safe, structured opportunities cannot be overstated.”

The session was delivered by ATBShop and ATBShop Skate, who worked with riders of all abilities to ensure the event was inclusive and well organised.

“These sessions are part of a wider youth offer across Haydon Wick and Priory Vale, and I hope the parish continues to prioritise and fund them in future,” she added.

Councillor Stevenson was joined by Cllrs Vinay Manro and Alex Roupelis during the afternoon. They spoke with young people and families and discussed ideas for future activities in the area.

The parish council said the SK8Jam forms part of a wider commitment to sustained youth investment, focusing on safe and structured opportunities that help build confidence, skills and community spirit.

Residents are being encouraged to share their views on what they would like included in future youth provision.
