Residents and staff from the Braydon care home visited The Open Door Centre in Gorse Hill to present the grant, which was awarded through Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
The funding will pay for one year of tennis coaching for members of the charity, which runs boxing and tennis sessions aimed at building confidence, encouraging independence and reducing social isolation.
The Open Door Centre provides a safe environment where adults with disabilities can develop new skills, stay active and build friendships through regular sporting activities.
Residents from White Lodge joined members and staff at the centre for a small celebration to mark the presentation.
Nick Sawbridge, Manager at The Open Door Centre, said:
“This funding will make a difference to the lives of our members. It will enable us to cover one year coaching expense for tennis. We’re incredibly grateful for this support and thank you for visiting our centre.”
Ramona Gherendi, General Manager at White Lodge Care Home, said:
“We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities.
“We believe local charities are an important part of caring for our wider community. Charity community centres are close to our heart because they provide friendship, connection and support for all kinds of people.
“We are delighted to present this grant and hope it helps The Open Door Centre continue its wonderful work, creating opportunities for adults to stay connected, active and valued within the community.”
The grant was awarded through Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, which provides financial support to charities and community groups across England, Scotland and Wales. The foundation supports projects that help older people and adults living with disabilities or mental health conditions remain connected with their local communities.
White Lodge Care Home, which is operated by Barchester Healthcare, provides residential, nursing and respite care. The home regularly supports community initiatives across Swindon as part of its commitment to promoting inclusion, wellbeing and independence.
