The event ran from 12pm to 5pm in constant sunshine. Visitors embraced the theme, with many dressed in cowboy hats and western outfits. The bucking bronco was a major attraction throughout the afternoon, drawing large queues and plenty of attention.

Entertainment was spread across both Wood Street and Devizes Road, with a main stage hosting live music and a new mini stage set up at the end of Devizes Road. The addition of the extra stage meant live performances could be enjoyed across the full length of the closure, creating a consistent atmosphere throughout.

Food and drink were provided by a mix of Old Town businesses trading outside their premises and guest traders brought in for the event. Local venues including pubs, bars and restaurants reported strong trade, with tables full both inside and outside.

The Gasworks Socials are organised by the Old Town Business Association, in partnership with Swindon Borough Council and Wales & West Utilities, to support Old Town businesses while gasworks continue on Devizes Road.

Kris Talikowski, Chair of the Old Town Business Association, said:
“Think it could have been our best event yet. The atmosphere was excellent, businesses reported busy trade, and the mix of entertainment and themed activity worked really well across both streets.”

The final Gasworks Social will be the Old Town Street Food Festival on Sunday 31 August. This will feature three stages of live music alongside world food stalls, marking the end of the summer series.
